Brazilian media reports indicate that the draw for the 2025 Women’s Copa Libertadores has taken place, with three Brazilian teams featuring: Corinthians, São Paulo, and Ferroviária. Defending champion Corinthians is placed in Group A, while São Paulo, making its debut, heads Group C. Boca Juniors, the champion from the host nation, is the top seed in Group B.

Ferroviária, a two-time winner, will compete in Group B against Boca, Alianza Lima from Peru, and Adiffem from Venezuela. Group D will be led by a Colombian team yet to be confirmed, along with Paraguay’s Libertad, Uruguay’s Nacional, and Universidad de Chile. Both Colombia and Ecuador are set to announce their teams shortly.

The tournament format remains unchanged: single round-robin matches in each group, with the top two teams advancing to the quarterfinals. In knockout rounds ending in a tie, penalties will determine the winner.

Brazil’s historical success in this tournament is notable. Of the 16 tournaments held so far, Brazilian clubs have secured 13 titles. Corinthians has five wins (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024), São José has three, Santos and Ferroviária each have two, and Palmeiras has one. Only three teams—Colo-Colo in 2012, Sportivo Limpeño in 2016, and Atlético Huila in 2018—have managed to interrupt this dominance.

The 2025 edition will again feature 16 clubs, and it will be a test of whether Brazilian teams can maintain their stronghold in what has become the top competition for women’s club football in South America.
