Messi could have another Argentine teammate as Inter Miami reportedly submit offer for midfielder
The 2025 season has started on a positive note for Inter Miami. They secured a spot in the round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions Cup after defeating Sporting Kansas City, while in Major League Soccer, they have posted a win and a draw in their first two games. Despite these positive results, the team is still not entirely satisfied with their current roster and has reportedly made an offer for an Argentine player to join Lionel Messi.
According to TyC Sports, Inter Miami made an offer to Racing Club of Argentina with the aim of signing Baltasar Rodriguez. The 21-year-old midfielder has been a target for the Florida-based club in the past, though negotiations had stalled previously due to a lack of agreement between the two parties.
Now, the Herons’ proposal is for Rodriguez to join the team on a season-long loan with an option to purchase 80% of his contract. This option will become an obligation to buy if the midfielder plays at least 66% of the team’s matches during the season.
However, initial reports suggest that Racing Club are not yet convinced by the offer, which they feel does not provide enough incentive to release one of their most promising talents. As a result, negotiations remain ongoing without reaching a resolution.

Who is Baltasar Rodriguez?
It’s no surprise that Inter Miami are interested in Rodriguez, especially considering that head coach Javier Mascherano has previously worked with him and received standout performances. The midfielder was part of Argentina’s roster at the 2023 U-23 pre-Olympic tournament in Venezuela.
During the tournament, Baltasar featured in five of the seven matches and scored a goal, regularly playing a key role in the team’s strong performance. Argentina finished second behind Paraguay, securing their place in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. However, Rodriguez was ultimately left off the roster for the Olympic tournament.
Another Argentine teammate for Messi?
Should Baltasar Rodriguez make the move to Inter Miami, it would mean a new Argentine teammate for Lionel Messi. It has been a consistent strategy of the club to surround Leo with players who are not only compatible with him on the field but also share similar cultural backgrounds and speak the same language.
As a result, Inter Miami’s roster is filled with Spanish-speaking players—including former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez—along with several Argentinians.
Messi’s Argentine contingent at Inter Miami includes Gonzalo Lujan, Tomas Aviles, Oscar Ustari, Tadeo Allende, Rocco Rios Novo, Federico Redondo, and Marcelo Weigandt. The team also includes Benjamin Cremaschi and Santiago Morales, who are of Argentine descent but were born outside the country, as well as David Martinez, who was born in Argentina and is a naturalized Paraguayan.
