Botafogo has confirmed the loan of 18-year-old midfielder Huguinho to RWDM Brussels, a Belgian club owned by John Textor, who also oversees Botafogo’s operations. The loan will last for one year but includes a provision that allows Botafogo to bring Huguinho back before the period ends.

This loan aims to give Huguinho more playing time and international experience, as he has only participated in four senior matches so far. Before the loan was finalized, he extended his contract with Botafogo, ensuring the club maintains control over his future.

The decision to loan him out is partly due to strong competition in midfield, with players like Danilo, Marlon Freitas, Newton, and Allan ahead of him. Huguinho, who can also play as a right-back, will first join Brazil’s training sessions at Granja Comary during the upcoming FIFA break before moving to Belgium.

He made his professional debut in the Copa do Brasil under Davide Ancelotti against Bragantino and also played in the 5-0 victory over Fortaleza. Botafogo views this loan as a way to aid his development while keeping the option of an early return available if necessary. Meanwhile, the club is getting ready for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil tie with Vasco, following a draw in the first match.
