Jonathan Luke Poulter, a Liverpool supporter, recently had a confrontation with Atlético coach Simeone. Previously, he faced a three-year ban from attending football matches.
Details: At Steven Gerrard’s farewell match at Anfield, Poulter insulted a woman in a wheelchair and her husband while ignoring requests to remove a banner that blocked their view.
The court determined that the banner obstructed the view of disabled fans. Sixty-one-year-old David Hyam felt “threatened and intimidated” by the 190cm-tall Poulter when he asked him to lower the banner. Hyam’s wife, Laura, reported that she heard Poulter—a man previously warned in 2013 for trying to bring smoke bombs into a match at Wigan’s stadium—curse at her husband.
Despite denying the accusations, Poulter was found guilty of using abusive language and making threats.
Besides the ban, Poulter was ordered to pay £520 in court costs, £500 in procedural fees, and £60 in compensation to the victims. The judge called his behavior “a disgraceful offence, unacceptable at the stadium.”
