As the 2026 World Cup nears and qualification spots are still being filled, Lionel Messi and Argentina face another challenge: the 2026 Finalissima against Lamine Yamal’s Spain, set for March. Recently, an important change regarding the venues has been disclosed.

The Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, which was initially a top contender for hosting the match, has been eliminated due to a busy event schedule in early 2026.

As reported by Jose Armando of Deporte Total USA, the Finalissima is taking place during a crowded period in Miami. The stadium, which can seat 65,000, will first hold the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 19.

Following this, preparations for the Miami Open tennis tournament will begin, a process that takes four to six weeks plus additional setup time. Moreover, the Miami Grand Prix in Formula 1 is also scheduled for March, making it impossible to hold a significant match like the Finalissima there.

This decision is a disappointment for Messi and the team, as they previously celebrated their 2024 Copa America victory at this venue after Lautaro Martinez scored against Colombia.

Other potential venues for the Finalissima

With Hard Rock Stadium out of the picture, three locations are still available to host the match: Lusail Stadium in Qatar, where Argentina won their third World Cup; Estadio Centenario in Montevideo; and Wembley Stadium in London, where Argentina triumphed over Italy in the 2022 tournament.
