Luca Zidane, the son of French football legend Zinedine Zidane, has received his first call-up to the Algerian national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who currently plays for Granada in Spain’s second division, previously represented France at youth levels but officially changed his national allegiance to Algeria last month.

This decision connects him to his family’s heritage, as his father’s roots are in the northern Algerian city of Bejaia. Algeria is in a strong position in their qualifying group with 19 points. A single victory against either Somalia or Uganda will confirm their place in the 2026 World Cup.
