Kannur Warriors FC began their Super League Kerala campaign with a win, defeating Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC in a close match with a final score of 3-2. The Warriors took an early lead by scoring in the first half. Kombans managed to level the score in the second half, but Kannur responded by scoring two more goals to seal the victory. The goals for Kannur Warriors came from Shijin T and Senegalese player Abdul Karim Samb, with an own goal from Kombans defender Felippe Alves adding to their total. Kannur native Mohammed Sinan entered the game in the 68th minute, replacing T Shijin. Within just six minutes, he was instrumental in helping Kannur regain the lead. His cross from the right wing was deflected by Kombans defender Felippe Alves, resulting in an own goal. Sinan also played a vital part in both attack and defence, later providing the assist for Abdul Karim Samb’s goal. He delivered a low pass into the box from the right wing, which Karim converted skillfully. Sinan was discovered by Kannur Warriors’ assistant coach Shafique Hassan through the ‘Game Changer Project’ selections. After impressing in a three-day camp, he progressed to the senior camp and secured a place in the team. Making the most of his opportunity in the first match of the season, he delivered a standout performance, suggesting he is a valuable signing for the club.

Goalkeeper C.K. Ubaid showed exactly why he is the first choice for Kannur Warriors. In the first half, he made three crucial saves that denied certain goals for Kombans FC, with two of them being of exceptional quality. Throughout the match, he also effectively organised the defence and midfield, ensuring the players maintained their positions.

The Nico-Vikas Partnership

In defence, the partnership between Argentine player Nicolás Delmonte and Vikas was a highlight. They were key in stopping the Kombans’ attacks. In addition to defending, they helped control the game by keeping possession of the ball for Kannur Warriors. Nicolás, who joined the team in September, had briefly returned to Spain due to a family medical emergency but rejoined the squad last Thursday. His return has significantly strengthened the team. Midfielder Nidal, who came on as a substitute, also delivered a strong performance, effectively breaking through the opponent’s fast and solid defence.
