Steven Gerrard, a Liverpool legend, has shared his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s choice to leave the club for Real Madrid.

Details: The former Liverpool captain mentioned that he understands why the defender made this decision but stated he would not have chosen to do the same.

During a podcast with Rio Ferdinand, Gerrard recalled receiving an offer from Real Madrid when José Mourinho was the manager.

“Of course, I listened. It’s Real Madrid. Any player would pay attention when a club like that comes calling. But we quickly said ‘no.’ I understand Trent — his best friend plays there, he’s won everything possible with Liverpool, and maybe he wants a new challenge,” Gerrard explained.

However, Gerrard noted that as a fan, it’s difficult for him to accept Alexander-Arnold’s decision.

“If I put on a Liverpool shirt, I think: ‘What are you doing? You’re already at one of the best clubs in Europe, winning trophies I never even managed, and the fans adore you — why?'”

According to the ex-Liverpool captain, the player took a risk by turning down a new contract with his childhood club.

“He’s one of the best passers I’ve ever seen, on the level of Beckham and Scholes. But by leaving Liverpool, he took a risk. I hope it works out for him. Personally, I wouldn’t have done it,” Gerrard stated.

Reminder: Real Madrid has set their price for Federico Valverde if they decide to let him go.
