Erling Haaland’s impressive performance continues. The Norwegian striker made news again by scoring for Manchester City in the Champions League, matching a record set by Cristiano Ronaldo, with Kylian Mbappe not far behind.
With his latest goal against Villarreal, Haaland has scored in 12 consecutive matches, tying Ronaldo’s streak from 2018 during his time at Real Madrid.
Mbappe is also on a scoring run, with goals in 11 straight games for Real Madrid. He can match Haaland’s streak on Wednesday, October 22, when his team plays Juventus.
This season, the 25-year-old forward has been outstanding, netting 24 goals and three assists in just 14 matches for Manchester City and the Norwegian national team. His consistent scoring makes him one of the world’s top strikers.
Haaland’s success in the Champions League
The Champions League is proving to be a strong platform for Haaland. He has scored 53 goals in 51 matches, making him the second-highest scorer in the tournament’s history before turning 26, only behind Lionel Messi.
Additionally, he became the fastest player to score 50 goals in the tournament, achieving this in just 49 games. The previous record was held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who did it in 62 matches.
Haaland reached this milestone at 25 years and 59 days old, making him the youngest to achieve it. In comparison, Mbappe was 25 years and 356 days old when he hit 50 goals, while Cristiano Ronaldo reached the mark at age 28.
