There are off nights, and the match between Lorient and PSG was one of those for the Parisians. While playing in Brittany, Luis Enrique’s players struggled to make an impact. They thought they had taken control when Nuno Mendes scored right after halftime, but Igor Silva equalized just two minutes later (1-1). This setback, coupled with the injury to Désiré Doué, frustrated Luis Enrique at the final whistle.
“Why were we put under so much pressure? It’s simple, we had a poor match,” the Paris coach expressed in a post-match interview. “We had a very poor first half, created no chances, and the opponent defended well, making it tough. We improved slightly in the second half, but I think we could play for another 90 minutes without scoring today,” he lamented.
Missing Key Ingredients for Luis Enrique
According to him, PSG paid the price for their lack of effectiveness, especially with their final passes. “I think we lacked clarity; we didn’t create situations, and it’s hard to win an away match like this… Lorient’s low block? We’re used to these phases since most teams defend this way, but when we lack one-on-one situations, movement in space, and incisive runs, it becomes difficult,” he noted.
“Is there frustration? Yes, of course; that’s why I’m a coach. When you don’t get what you’re looking for, it’s hard to manage,” he added. As for Désiré Doué, the coach mentioned that it was “not good news,” but without going into further details. Before facing Bayern Munich in six days, PSG will have one last chance to prepare against Nice on Saturday. Luis Enrique expects a better performance from his team.
