This Tuesday evening, Lucas Chevalier will be in the spotlight. Having participated in Paris Saint-Germain’s victory during a previous Champions League clash against a weakened FC Barcelona, the 23-year-old goalkeeper must deliver an outstanding performance against Bayern Munich at Parc des Princes (21:00 IST). Facing one of the strongest teams currently, Chevalier, who replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, has significant expectations to meet.
Before the match against Bayern, Lucas Chevalier shared his experiences regarding his transition to Paris Saint-Germain. Transferred from LOSC for a substantial sum of €55 million, the French international admits that moving to the European champions was not an easy decision, primarily due to the added pressure. “I had to think carefully about this, along with my family. We knew it would be different before even experiencing it… I could have made other choices or stayed in my comfort zone at Lille without taking risks,” he stated in an interview with Figaro, emphasizing his desire to elevate his career.
Lucas Chevalier confident after facing criticism
However, Chevalier’s arrival has not been smooth. His performances since joining the capital have drawn criticism, particularly after underwhelming displays against Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup and Marseille in Ligue 1. Yet, he insists he has moved past those challenges. “I feel better and better. My arrival accelerated in the last few days, and we immediately prepared for the Super Cup. The first month or so was a bit uncomfortable. I was still living in a hotel. I like routine, and it felt a bit chaotic,” said the 23-year-old goalkeeper, who believes it was the right time to leave LOSC.
Reflecting on the criticism, Chevalier found adapting to PSG challenging, a club where “there’s no room for mistakes” and “everything is scrutinized; you need to perform immediately. The good is expected, while the not-so-good isn’t acceptable.” After a tough two months, the French international is now focused on a long-term future at Paris Saint-Germain, where he feels a sense of confidence among his teammates, with the clear aim of winning a second consecutive Champions League title.
