This winter, Juventus Turin aims to make significant strides. The Italian club is focused on bolstering its midfield, a priority set by the new coach Luciano Spalletti. After taking over from Igor Tudor, the former Italy national team manager evaluated the squad and concluded that a midfielder is crucial. The club’s CEO, Damien Comoli, is tasked with pursuing this goal.

During Spalletti’s presentation, he commented on the transfer market: “We must adhere to financial fair play, but we will seize opportunities as they arise.” Reports suggest that Juventus is already targeting players. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Spalletti has prioritized Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a well-known figure in Ligue 1, where he has been representing Olympique de Marseille since 2024.

Hojbjerg is the Priority

The Danish midfielder has quickly established himself as a key player in the squad and on the pitch. This season, he has played in 16 matches across all competitions, starting in 13 of them and scoring once. Although sometimes critiqued for inconsistency, Roberto De Zerbi values his contributions. Juventus is impressed by the 30-year-old, citing “his leadership, experience, and ability to guide the team from midfield,” despite him not being a classic playmaker. He fits the bill as a “more assertive, charismatic, and technical midfielder,” which is exactly what Spalletti and the club are looking for, according to GdS.

It remains to be seen how Hojbjerg views a potential transfer, especially since he’s under contract until 2028. Likewise, Olympique de Marseille appears to rely on him. GdS reports De Zerbi is hesitant to let him go. Moreover, the two clubs have previously negotiated, notably over Timothy Weah, which turned lengthy. Nonetheless, Juventus is eager to make an attempt and may consider including one of their players in the deal, with Manuel Locatelli’s name being mentioned, as De Zerbi knows him from their time at Sassuolo. Should this pursuit fail, Juventus has a backup plan ready, targeting Adrian Bernabé from Parma. The transfer window is already in motion across the Alps.
