The President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, has addressed the controversy with Italy’s coach Gennaro Gattuso following the match against Moldova. He confirmed he would be at San Siro to support the national team, reiterating his views on fan rights: “Tonight, I will be at San Siro to cheer for Italy, and I agree with Gattuso that everyone should support the Azzurri. However, I also emphasize that fans have the right to boo if they wish, as long as it does not lead to violence, whether physical or verbal,” La Russa stated.

In response to Gattuso’s invitation for a “lunch at the Senate,” La Russa clarified on social media that he didn’t fully grasp the severity of the attacks directed at the coach: “I followed the meeting at Naples airport on a tablet, and what the coach is now denouncing wasn’t initially apparent: the extremely serious and unacceptable personal attacks that should not only be condemned, but also pursued in court if necessary.” He concluded with irony, saying: “I’m glad if this little controversy has led people to talk less about Italy’s rather mediocre performance in the match.”
