Michael Bradley, a former midfielder for the U.S. Men’s National Team, has been named head coach of Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls.

The Red Bulls made the announcement on December 15.

This marks Bradley’s first role as a senior coach, but he has a strong connection to the Red Bulls. He started his career there as a youth player in 2004. After two decades, he returned to the club to begin his coaching career, taking charge of the youth team New York Red Bulls II, where he led them to a national title in his first season.

“Michael had an exceptional playing career and has shown great potential in coaching, especially after leading our Red Bull New York II to the MLS NEXT Pro Cup this past season,” said Red Bulls sporting director Julian de Guzman, according to mlssoccer.com.

“He leads with calm confidence and connects well with people. We are eager for Michael to implement his philosophy with our first team and guide our club towards continued success.”
