Former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has discussed his World Cup hopes with England manager Thomas Tuchel as next summer’s tournament approaches.

The 28-year-old has made a mark at AC Milan since leaving Chelsea in 2021, winning the Scudetto in his first full season and establishing himself as a top centre-back in Serie A.

However, Tomori has not played for England since November 2023, when he started in a European Championship qualifier against Malta. He has only five caps since his international debut in 2019.

“I spoke to him after the last international break in November. We’ve had a few discussions, and he encourages me to keep performing well,” Tomori told the BBC.

“The World Cup is six months away, and there’s still a lot of football to be played.”

“I know he’s watching, especially since he called up (team-mate) Ruben Loftus-Cheek. That gives me confidence that I can be included.”

“He visited Milan last season, and I know he follows our data and highlights as well.”

“He mentioned that the competition is tough because there are many players in my position, like John Stones, Marc Guehi, Dan Burn, and Ezri Konsa.”
