On December 20 at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Liverpool secured a vital 2-1 win against Spurs, with goals from Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. Isak, who came on as a substitute for Conor Bradley, scored the opening goal with an assist from Florian Wirtz, another new signing.

Isak was injured after a sliding tackle from Micky van de Ven, leaving him in pain and unable to celebrate. He was substituted for Jeremie Frimpong. This goal marked Isak’s third since joining Liverpool, but suffering a potential leg break right after scoring is unfortunate for him. Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher shared his thoughts and suggested a player who could help fill the gap left by Isak’s injury.

Carragher Talks About Coping with Isak’s Injury

Antoine Semenyo Suggested as a Potential Replacement

While discussing Liverpool’s options following Isak’s injury, Carragher said:

“One thing is for sure now, Mo Salah will be staying at the club. I think there’s a good chance Harvey Elliott will return from Aston Villa as well.

“Whether Liverpool looks for a striker or another attacking player like Semenyo, whom they have been linked with, it’s known he has a buyout clause in January.

“They also have wide players like Salah and Gakpo who can play centrally, along with young Jayden Danns.

“I think that’s a way to manage this situation because when they faced problems in the past, such as with center-backs, they didn’t overspend on players they didn’t want.

“So if they want Semenyo, that might be a good option for them.”

What Should Arne Slot Do Next?

Even though Isak had a slow start at Anfield, his injury is a significant setback for Arne Slot’s team. Does he have enough resources within the squad, or should he look to the January transfer window? Is Antoine Semenyo the right solution, having scored eight goals in 17 matches for Bournemouth?
