This weekend brought bad news for Manchester United as captain Bruno Fernandes got injured during the match against Aston Villa.
Since joining Old Trafford five years ago, the Portugal international has missed only two games due to injury and one due to illness.
Unfortunately, this injury is expected to keep him out for a longer period than all of those games combined.
During the first half at Villa Park, Fernandes was seen holding the back of his right leg, indicating he was in pain.
Concerns grew when he was seen on the bench in the second half, replaced by Lisandro Martinez.
Fernandes is expected to be sidelined for about a month due to soft-tissue damage, likely to his hamstring.
The severity of his injury was evident when he was spotted on a night out in Alderley Edge on Monday night.
As he left Turquoise Restaurant, he was seen limping noticeably, highlighting the issue he is facing.
When asked if he could play in the Boxing Day match against Newcastle United, the 31-year-old simply replied: “No.”
This is a significant setback for the Red Devils, who are also missing Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Kobbie Mainoo is also out with a calf injury, leaving only Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte as the senior midfield options for coach Ruben Amorim.
As a result, CentreDevils reports that the club is exploring options in the midfield market for the January transfer window.
However, Amorim is cautious and wants to avoid making hasty purchases just to fill short-term needs.
