Thomas Frank has defended Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven after the challenge that injured Liverpool striker Alexander Isak last weekend.

Isak suffered a fractured fibula due to a tackle from Van de Ven while trying to take a shot. He has since had surgery and will be out for several months.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot criticized the challenge on Tuesday, describing it as ‘reckless’ and highlighting the risk of injury.

Ahead of Tottenham’s match against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Frank supported Van de Ven, saying there was no intent to hurt. He explained, “It’s a transition. He’s sprinting back. A ball comes and he tries to block the shot. Unfortunately, Isak planted his foot right there, making it look worse. That reaction is typical for any defender.”

Frank added, “If my defenders don’t act like that, I wouldn’t consider them true defenders. Micky has always been fair and competitive.”

He also noted that both players have spoken and resolved the matter, which he sees as a positive sign.
