After a tough defeat against Aston Villa, Manchester United needs a strong performance against Newcastle United this weekend. They face an uphill battle with both Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo out for the AFCON tournament and injuries to key midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

Fernandes had a soft tissue injury during the match against Villa, and his absence would significantly impact Manchester United’s chances of finishing in the top four. Ruben Amorim hinted this could be a longer absence for him.

Mainoo was also sidelined for the Villa game due to a calf injury, leaving his availability for the Newcastle match uncertain.

Amorim has stated that neither Fernandes nor Mainoo will play this weekend, though he believes Mainoo’s injury is less serious, saying, “I think Kobbie will return faster than Bruno.”

Fernandes plays a crucial role in Manchester United’s strategy, while Mainoo has mostly been on the bench. With Fernandes potentially out for a longer period, Mainoo may get a chance to step up, despite Amorim’s previous reluctance to use him.

Overall, Manchester United faces a challenging match against Newcastle, missing Mbeumo, Diallo, Fernandes, and Mainoo. Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte will need to perform exceptionally to avoid further disappointment.
