Ruben Amorim has indicated he is open to adjusting his usual 3-4-2-1 formation at Manchester United.

In the recent 1-0 victory over Newcastle on Boxing Day, Amorim chose a four-man defense due to player absences.

The Portuguese coach has faced criticism for sticking with his three centre-backs as the team has been inconsistent. However, ahead of the match against Wolves, he expressed willingness to change his approach.

Amorim stated that the team “will not always play with three defenders,” even when all players are available.

“When I joined last season, I realized that we might not have the players suited for that system yet, but it was just the start,” he mentioned in a pre-match news session.

“We were working on establishing our style. Now, the situation is different. With fewer players available, we need to adapt, so they see why these changes are necessary.

“It isn’t due to pressure from the media or the fans.

“If I change the system too often based on media comments, the players will think it’s because of outside influences, which could undermine my position as manager.

“We should change only when we are performing well within our setup.

“We will improve as a team, and when all players are back, we won’t always use three defenders.”
