Toronto FC has signed Brazilian defender Matheus Pereira from CD Santa Clara in Portugal.
The 25-year-old left back’s contract runs until the end of the 2027-28 MLS season, with an option for 2028-29.
Pereira has scored 10 goals and provided 14 assists across 198 matches, including 86 games in Portugal’s Premier League.
Toronto FC general manager Jason Hernandez stated, “Matheus is a competitive, attack-minded left back, who can also push further up the field. His speed and crossing ability will be vital for us as we aim for balance on both sides. We are eager to start working with Matheus and to welcome him to our city.”
Toronto FC will kick off the 2026 MLS season against FC Dallas on February 21.
