Newcastle United was a key topic during the summer transfer window.

The transfer of Swedish striker Alexander Isak grabbed headlines until it was finalized on deadline day.

Newcastle also signed Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw, and Aaron Ramsdale.

However, the team is currently in 14th place in the Premier League, just 10 points above the relegation zone.

This situation has led many to believe that Newcastle might look for new players in January, using some of the funds from the Isak sale.

The Mirror reports that Newcastle is considering a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher, a former Chelsea player, is also being linked with Manchester United as he looks to return to English football.

This season, his playing time has been limited, averaging only 34.4 minutes per game in 18 La Liga appearances.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, he will be eager to secure more first-team opportunities with the England squad.

England manager Thomas Tuchel mentioned in November that he has a list of players he plans to communicate with in various ways.

Gallagher will want to show his capabilities to impress Tuchel during this time.

Competing for a spot on the World Cup roster will be challenging, with players like Adam Wharton, Jordan Henderson, Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson, and Alex Scott on Tuchel’s recent squad list.

Gallagher would be a valuable addition to either Newcastle or Manchester United, considering Newcastle’s league difficulties and the potential departure of three midfielders from Old Trafford in January.
