Sporting Kansas City has signed defender Justin Reynolds from the Chicago Fire. In exchange, they provided a third-round pick in the 2028 MLS SuperDraft and up to $100,000 in general allocation money.
Sporting KC will also pay the Fire a percentage of the transfer fee if Reynolds is permanently moved to a club outside of MLS.
“Justin has represented his hometown well during his time with the Chicago Fire Academy, second team, and first team,” said Fire head coach and director of football Gregg Berhalter in a news release on Tuesday. “We thank him for his contributions to the club and look forward to his continued development as a player and person.”
Reynolds, 21, was initially a homegrown talent in the Chicago system. He signed with the Fire’s first team on January 1, 2023, and spent a significant part of the 2023-24 Swiss Super League season with Chicago’s sister club, FC Lugano.
He made 12 MLS appearances (two as a starter) with the Fire over three seasons and scored one goal—a game-winner against Inter Miami CF on September 30, 2025. That goal marked the Fire’s first postseason appearance since 2017.
Reynolds was also part of the Fire’s U-19 Academy team that won the first-ever MLS NEXT Championship in 2021.
