Jadon Sancho’s career has taken a significant turn since he left Borussia Dortmund.
The winger is still trying to find his footing after a costly yet disappointing time at Manchester United.
Sancho transferred to United from Dortmund in July 2021 for about £73 million, arriving with impressive stats of 53 goals and 67 assists in 158 matches for the German club.
However, he struggled to maintain that level at Old Trafford, recording only 12 goals and six assists in 82 games, facing challenges with form, confidence, and tactics.
His loan move to Aston Villa aimed to revive his career, but it has instead raised more questions, as Sancho has not emerged as a key player on the right wing.
His output has been limited, and he has faced criticism for his body language and reactions to being substituted recently.
The difference from his time at Dortmund is clear, as Villa has yet to see the explosive winger who once excelled against Bundesliga defenses, leaving United to handle the financial and team planning issues from his stalled progress.
Villa’s choice to sign a young right-sided winger highlights that Sancho is not in their long-term plans for this position.
Aston Villa recently announced the signing of promising Brazilian teenager Alysson, a 19-year-old from Grêmio, on their official website.
Alysson rose through the youth ranks in Porto Alegre and debuted in July 2024.
His rapid advancement saw him become a key player for Grêmio, featuring in 34 league matches last season and proving to be one of the club’s top young talents.
With Sancho’s contract still active and his wages high, United may soon face the same challenges they hoped the loan to Villa would solve.
