The 2025/26 season has been unpredictable for Real Madrid.

Under new manager Xabi Alonso, they started strong with 13 wins in their first 14 matches across competitions.

However, they have only secured five wins in the following 11 games.

This has increased pressure on Alonso, with reports suggesting his position is in jeopardy.

Recently, the team’s form has improved, winning three of their last three matches.

As the January transfer window opens, Real Madrid is looking to strengthen their squad, which could pose a problem for Manchester United.

The Express reports that former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer when his contract ends, with a potential £20 million fee if he moves in January.

Neves signed with Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal for £47 million in the summer of 2023 after a successful tenure with Wolves.

During his time with the club, Neves helped Wolves return to the Premier League and become competitive in Europe.

He led Wolves to an FA Cup semi-final in 2019, narrowly missing a chance to compete in the final against Manchester City.

Neves is also celebrated for his stunning goals, particularly one against Derby County, regarded by many as the best in Wolves’ history.

At 28 years old, Neves’ move to Madrid would complicate United’s plans to find midfield replacements for Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte.

The club has also been exploring other midfield options, including Carlos Baleba, Conor Gallagher, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson, but securing Neves would have provided a more economical choice.
