Florian Wirtz has acknowledged that Fulham’s late equaliser against Liverpool was unstoppable.

Liverpool’s chase for a top-four finish faced a setback after Harrison Reed scored a brilliant equaliser for Fulham during stoppage time at Craven Cottage.

After goals from Harry Wilson and Wirtz, Liverpool seemed poised for victory when Cody Gakpo scored in stoppage time.

However, Reed’s remarkable strike ensured the match ended in a draw, as he found the top corner from a distance.

Wirtz expressed disappointment at the second consecutive draw but admitted there was little Liverpool could do about Reed’s stunning goal.

“Not satisfied at all. We need points and we wanted three points today. We know there’s no easy game in this league,” Wirtz stated to Sky Sports.

“The intensity we brought to the pitch in the second half was much better. We didn’t press them well in the first half, but the second half was much improved.

“I thought it was offside, so I didn’t even celebrate. I was happy to score, but I’d rather have the three points.”

“The strike was incredible. You can’t stop that shot. Usually, that kind of goal doesn’t happen. The actions leading up to it could have been better; it stemmed from a throw-in, so we need to improve.”

“We find ourselves in a tough position after two draws. It’s not what we want; we aim for more. We need to keep improving, but it’s still a process.”
