Crystal Palace is aiming to sign Strasbourg player Joaquin Panichelli as a possible replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta is in the last 18 months of his contract at Selhurst Park and has not agreed to an extension.

The 28-year-old has netted 38 goals in the Premier League over the past two and a half seasons, drawing interest from major clubs.

He debuted for France this autumn and scored twice in three international appearances, which may enhance his market value.

Mateta is considering his options due to interest from Champions League clubs, and Palace is open to selling him for the right price in the summer. Manchester United and Aston Villa are also evaluating potential moves.

The club has started looking for a replacement, with Panichelli being a top target. Journalist Alan Nixon reported that Palace is monitoring the player’s performances in Ligue 1 this season.

Panichelli joined Strasbourg from Alaves after a successful loan at Mirandes in Spain’s Segunda Division.

He has made an impressive start in France, scoring 10 goals in 17 Ligue 1 matches. The 23-year-old’s performance led to his debut for Argentina this autumn.

Chelsea is also interested in Panichelli, as both clubs share ownership under BlueCo.
