Arne Slot indicated that Liverpool is unlikely to be active during the January transfer window, expressing confidence in the current squad.

The club had a record summer spending of £446 million, the highest by any Premier League team in a single transfer window.

Despite this significant investment, Liverpool faced challenges during the early part of the season. They have since improved and returned to the top four but are expected to lose the title to Arsenal this year.

Currently, the team is contending with injuries to key players like Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, while Mo Salah is participating in the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Slot reassures that new signings are not necessary this month.

“I’m happy with the squad we have; it aligns with me, [sporting director] Richard Hughes, and the ownership,” the Dutch manager said before the upcoming match against Arsenal.

“This team is talented when everyone is fit. The injuries are unfortunate, but I hope people now see that we replaced outgoing players with high-quality talent.”

“Even in recent games, [Jeremie] Frimpong provided an assist off the bench, and our starting players are exceptional. This club is in a great position if everyone is available in the near future.”

One potential area for improvement is defense, where the squad is currently limited in numbers. Marc Guehi is thought to be a summer target after Liverpool missed out on signing him last September, though they may pursue him in January as Manchester City reportedly shows interest.

However, Slot avoided discussing Guehi in his press conference. “Vinny [O’Connor] always wants to talk transfers! He knows I don’t comment on transfers or players from other teams, so it’s pointless to ask.”

Additionally, Slot confirmed that Liverpool cannot recall Harvey Elliott from his loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery stated that Villa has no intentions of signing him permanently, as he has only made one Premier League start since his summer transfer.

“If you want to ask about a Villa player, speak to Unai Emery. Liverpool has no recall option,” Slot added.
