Ben Chilwell has joined Strasbourg on a free transfer, ending his five-year tenure at Chelsea.
Chilwell moved to Chelsea from Leicester City in August 2020, with the transfer fee set at £45 million.
During his initial time at Stamford Bridge, he enjoyed success, contributing to Chelsea’s victory in the 2021 UEFA Champions League against Manchester City, as well as winning the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, his journey was marred by injury when he sustained a ruptured cruciate ligament in November 2021 during a match against Juventus. This and subsequent injuries restricted him to just 70 Premier League games over five seasons.
His situation worsened when he was excluded from first-team training and informed he was no longer needed, classifying him among players referred to as the ‘bomb squad’.
Liam Rosenior has since assisted Chilwell in regaining his form in France, suggesting there may still be more to his career ahead.
