Ineos has focused on controlling the club’s expenses and didn’t want to alter the wage structure for one player.
Antoine Semenyo’s £65 million release clause posed a challenge for Manchester United, especially with transfer debts on the rise. Meeting that cost would have significantly impacted their summer plans.
According to The Guardian, Semenyo’s new contract with Manchester City is valued at £150,000 per week over five years.
This totals about £7.8 million annually, excluding extra incentives included in the deal.
Manchester City is spreading their payments over three years, a strategy that United has used in past transactions with players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Every Man United player earning more than Antoine Semenyo
For a player of Semenyo’s caliber, the salary from City appears reasonable. It becomes clearer when compared to what some Manchester United players earn.
Casemiro leads the wage list at Old Trafford, earning £350,000 weekly, while Bruno Fernandes follows closely at £300,000 per week.
Semenyo’s new deal places him below several players, including Mason Mount, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw.
Additionally, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo reportedly earn a similar amount, around £150,000 per week at United.
Ineos has been cautious in offering large contracts to newcomers, but Semenyo may have been attainable without exceeding budget constraints.
