Darren Fletcher has stated that Manchester United‘s season is not finished despite their FA Cup exit to Brighton.

United lost 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday, marking the first time since the 1981/82 season that they have been eliminated from both domestic cups in their first match.

After failing to qualify for Europe this season, the club now faces the possibility of ending the season without any trophies.

Despite this setback, interim manager Fletcher emphasized that there is still much to fight for. He mentioned that qualifying for the Champions League should be the priority as the season progresses. United is currently three points away from the top four ahead of this weekend’s Manchester Derby.

“Well, it’s not in a great moment. Yeah, let’s be honest, out of the cups early,” he said.

“But as I said, there’s still a Champions League place to aim for, and I believe that can be accomplished this season. It may not be what supporters want to hear, but winning cups and competing for the Premier League may not be realistic this year.

“Given the quality we have, and the tight league standings, there are still plenty of games left to achieve that goal.

“So, that should be the focus: improving as a team quickly and not wasting the season. That’s the challenge I would set.”

“That’s the challenge that the players likely feel they need to meet this year. Anything beyond that is just noise. Their energy should be focused on this.”
