Michael Carrick has been appointed as the interim head coach of Manchester United, expressing it as an “honour” and vowing to deliver performances that fans expect.

He takes over from Darren Fletcher, who managed the team temporarily after Ruben Amorim was let go last week. Fletcher will return to his position as U18s head coach.

Steve Holland, previously an assistant coach for England under Gareth Southgate, will assist Carrick. Additionally, Jonathan Woodgate, who was an assistant at Middlesbrough and played for Leeds United, along with U21s coach Travis Binnion and Jonny Evans, will also be part of the coaching staff.

“I understand what it takes to be successful here; my main goal is to help the players meet the high standards expected at this remarkable club, which I believe they can achieve.

“I’ve worked with several players previously and have been observing the team closely. I completely trust their talent, dedication, and capacity to succeed.

“There is still plenty to compete for this season, and we are ready to unite everyone and deliver the performances that our loyal supporters deserve.”

Jason Wilcox, the director of football, noted: “Michael is a skilled coach who knows what it takes to win at Manchester United.

“He is prepared to lead our talented and committed group of players for the rest of the season as we continue working towards consistent success.”
