Tottenham Hotspur Active in January Transfer Window

Tottenham Hotspur is set to allow another player to leave during the winter transfer window. Manchester City’s ownership group is making a move to sign 22-year-old Argentine footballer Alejo Veliz.

CFG Side Bahia Makes Offer for Alejo Veliz

Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported that City Football Group (CFG) is interested in signing the Spurs center forward. Bahia is likely to be Veliz’s next destination if the deal goes through with CFG.

Previously, Brazilian club Flamengo showed interest in Veliz, but now it seems that Bahia is leading the effort to secure his signature.

Tottenham signed Veliz from Rosario Central in August 2022, but he has struggled to make an impact in North London. His loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol also did not yield positive results.

Facing difficulties, Tottenham permitted the 22-year-old to return to Rosario Central in July. This decision seems to have had a positive effect, as he has scored five goals in 16 appearances this season.

However, it appears his future might still be away from his original club. Merlo reports that Bahia has made a substantial offer to sign Veliz, which he describes as “quite high,” although exact figures were not disclosed. He also mentioned that there is a preliminary agreement with Tottenham for the transfer.

According to TyC Sports, this transfer situation has surprised those at Rosario Central. The 22-year-old trained with his current team’s squad on Tuesday as they prepare for a friendly against Almirante Brown. TyC Sports indicates that Wednesday’s events will be crucial, depending on whether manager Jorge Almiron includes him in the match squad.

If he is left out, it could signal an imminent transfer away from Rosario and possibly Tottenham. Although this transfer might not grab headlines in Europe, it is significant in South American football. If completed, Veliz’s time at Hotspur Way could soon come to an end.
