Harry Maguire’s journey at Manchester United has been quite eventful.

He joined from Leicester in the summer of 2019 for a record fee of £80 million, which was £5 million more than the previous record set by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

Just five months after arriving, he was appointed United captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Ashley Young’s transfer to Inter Milan.

Despite this early promise, Maguire faced criticism due to a mix of his own poor form and the team’s struggles.

In July 2023, Erik ten Hag removed him from the captaincy, but Maguire has since shown signs of improvement.

One highlight was scoring the winning goal in a 5-4 victory against Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, helping United secure a semi-final spot with a 7-6 aggregate win.

After the sacking of Ruben Amorim, Michael Carrick has taken over as interim manager, leaving many players’ futures uncertain.

Several players, including Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana, have already left the club, either on loan or permanently.

As Maguire nears the end of his career, United may consider new beginnings.

He has been linked with moves to several Serie A clubs, including Inter Milan, Napoli, and Fiorentina.

Given the success of his former teammate Chris Smalling at AS Roma, a move to Italy could appeal to Maguire.
