Pep Guardiola thinks he would have lost his job at many other clubs after last season’s results with Manchester City.

City finished the 2024-25 season without winning any major trophies, ending up in third place and losing to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final. They struggled in the autumn, losing six out of eight league matches.

This disappointing season is unusual for Guardiola, who has enjoyed significant success during his time in Manchester. He will mark ten years at the Etihad this summer.

This weekend, City will compete against Manchester United in the Manchester Derby. United is looking for a new manager following Ruben Amorim’s exit and is on the hunt for their 11th manager—both permanent and interim—since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Amid these changes, Guardiola expressed his appreciation for the support from the Manchester City board.

When asked about his longevity at City, Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference: “Results, results.”

“If you don’t win, you are sacked. If we don’t win, I would be sacked. We’ve had a lot of success, which is why I’m still here. There’s no other secret.”

“At another club, I wouldn’t be here after last season. They are more patient, perhaps because of what we’ve achieved in the past. We had three poor months. The past has been good, so that’s why I’m still here.”
