Pep Guardiola acknowledged that Manchester United deserved to win against Manchester City in the Manchester Derby on Saturday afternoon.

City has not managed to defeat United in three of their last four league meetings and last won away against them in October 2023.

Pep Guardiola admits ‘better team won’ in Manchester Derby

After the match, Guardiola stated to Sky Sports: “The better team won. They were better. When a team is better, you have to accept it. They had the energy we didn’t have, so congratulations.”

“They created chances late in the game and we defended poorly. While we can analyze specific moments, generally speaking, they were the better team.”

The atmosphere at Old Trafford was lively, as United played well and gave their fans much to cheer about this season.

“They started very strong, and we lost possession a couple of times,” Guardiola added. “The crowd was louder, which is expected in a derby. Given their recent history and the new manager, this is a part of the game.”

“We didn’t create any real threats, which also relates to our energy levels. Winning or losing is about how we handle the ball, not just when we’re defending.”
