Michael Carrick praised Amad Diallo and another key player after the match against Manchester City.

Amad was with the Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations at the end of 2025 and has now returned to Manchester United after the team lost 3-2 to Egypt in the quarter-finals.

During Amad’s six-game absence, the club parted ways with Ruben Amorim, and Michael Carrick became the interim head coach.

Carrick quickly included Diallo in the starting lineup against Manchester City on Saturday, a decision that proved beneficial.

Carrick’s thoughts on Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu after the win against Man City

Amad played the full match as Manchester United secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League.

Operating on the right side in a 4-2-3-1 formation, he consistently posed a threat during the game.

Bruno Fernandes played in the number 10 position, while Patrick Dorgu was on the opposite wing, with Bryan Mbeumo as the striker.

After the win, Carrick told Sky Sports that both Amad and Dorgu were effective in their roles.

“I won’t say much about Pep; he is a great coach with a strong team. We focused on our strengths, and Amad and Dorgu were fantastic in both defense and attack,” he said.

Carrick also praised three other Manchester United players

Mbeumo scored in the second half, and Dorgu added another goal to secure the 2-0 win for United.

This was a solid beginning for Carrick as interim manager, and Old Trafford celebrated a well-deserved victory against their rivals.

Carrick also recognized Mbeumo, Fernandes, and Cunha for their contributions, noting, “Mbeumo and Bruno, Cunha came on and made a difference, and Mount nearly scored.”

“Everything went as we hoped.”

Carrick’s next match will be against league leaders Arsenal on January 25th.
