Jamie McDonnell Joins the U’s
Having recently returned from a successful loan at Mansfield, Oxford has invested significantly to bring in the Forest midfielder.
During his loan spell with the Stags, McDonnell was a key player, featuring regularly in Nigel Clough’s squad. He earned recognition for his standout performance in their FA Cup upset against Sheffield United.
Previously, he had another loan at Colchester, where he was named Young Player of the Year after making 32 appearances in League Two.
McDonnell joined Forest in 2020 but has not yet played for the senior team.
What He Said
After finalizing his move, McDonnell expressed his excitement, stating: “I’m very excited to be here and to get started at Oxford United. It’s a club full of ambition, which was important for me as I signed a long-term deal.”
“I feel I’ve learned a lot from my loan spells and grown at every step. I’m ready to challenge myself at this level and give everything for the team.”
“I’m a midfielder who wants to be involved in all aspects of the game, work hard for the badge, and keep improving. I can’t wait to play in front of the supporters and show what I can bring to the club.”
Oxford United head coach Matt Bloomfield added, “Jamie is an exciting young player, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to Oxford United. At every level he’s played, he’s demonstrated maturity, authority, and a deep understanding of the game beyond his years.”
“He possesses strong skills in midfield, a solid work ethic, and a real desire to grow. He has already gained valuable experience in club and international football, and we believe he has a bright future here.”
“I’ve worked closely with Ed Waldron and the recruitment team to secure the players we want during this window. Jamie is ambitious and determined, making him a great fit for our current and future needs.”
