Chelsea is considering signing Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon or Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi if they cannot agree on a deal for Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet.
Liam Rosenior is focusing on bringing in a centre-back this month, and Chelsea is in talks with Rennes about a deal for the promising Jacquet. The 20-year-old has become a key player for Rennes this season, attracting interest from various European clubs.
Chelsea aims to secure a signing during the winter transfer window, but Rennes is hesitant to sell. The French club is asking for a fee greater than the €64m (£55.4m) record transfer fee they received from Manchester City for Jeremy Doku in 2023.
If Chelsea cannot meet that price, they have other options. Journalist Ben Jacobs has mentioned that Ramon and Senesi are also being considered.
Ramon has stood out since joining Como from Real Madrid last summer, and Liverpool is also watching the 21-year-old’s progress.
However, Real Madrid has a buy-back option that they might activate at the end of the season. Since Ramon just joined Como last summer, he remains under a long-term contract.
Senesi seems like a more straightforward option. His contract expires this summer, and Bournemouth may look to sell him now rather than risk losing him for free. Chelsea has not yet contacted Bournemouth for discussions.
There is also interest in Senesi from Spain, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid looking to sign him as a free agent this summer.
