Liverpool and Spurs have started discussions about a potential transfer for Andy Robertson in January.

With his contract expiring this summer, the left-back is looking for more playing time ahead of the FIFA World Cup, after Scotland qualified last November.

The 31-year-old has only made four starts in the Premier League this season since Milos Kerkez joined from Bournemouth last summer.

The Athletic reported that Spurs are “working on a deal” to sign Robertson this month as they wish to strengthen their squad for head coach Thomas Frank.

Initially, Tottenham planned to wait until summer when he would be a free agent, but they are now moving quickly.

The report states that “negotiations between all parties are progressing,” with Sky Sports News also confirming that “early discussions” are taking place.

Sky suggests the deal might be around £5 million, and an agreement could be reached in the next few days.

If the transfer goes through, Liverpool could consider bringing back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at AS Roma.

At Spurs, Robertson would compete for playing time with Destiny Udogie and teenager Souza, who just joined from Santos. He has also been linked to a move to Celtic.
