Pep Guardiola expressed satisfaction with Marc Guehi after he contributed to Manchester City‘s victory over Wolves in his first match.
The centre-back joined City this week for £20 million from Crystal Palace, marking the team’s second signing in the January transfer window.
Guehi played alongside Abdukodir Khusanov and made the highest number of passes (95) in the match, helping the team secure a clean sheet in a 2-0 home win.
Pep Guardiola praises Marc Guehi after debut with Man City
“We won against a team that was unbeaten in their last four or five games, so I’m quite happy,” Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day after the game.
“Being the captain of Crystal Palace means he has to be special. I’m really pleased for him. He has high standards for our performance. Good players adapt quickly and grasp the game well, which is why he did well.”
Guehi acknowledged that he still needs to understand City’s playing style better but described the past week as exciting.
“I did okay, but there’s much for me to learn to get fully up to speed. There are many details and positioning aspects to grasp, but it has been really exciting.
“The team has a strong mentality, and it’s crucial we focus on the next game to secure a win. We need to maintain our intensity and mindset, and I hope we keep that going.”
