Arne Slot has stated he needs “all my players” amid rumors linking Andy Robertson with a move from Liverpool in January.
The left-back played 45 minutes in Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday, even as Tottenham Hotspur showed interest in signing him.
Reports indicate that Spurs and Liverpool are in discussions about a potential transfer this month, with Sky Sports News mentioning a fee of about £5 million.
Robertson’s contract ends this season, allowing him to leave for free in the summer. He has also been connected to a move to Celtic.
Arne Slot emphasizes the need for Andy Robertson at Liverpool amid Spurs rumors
When asked about Robertson’s future, Liverpool manager Slot said: “I need all my players. I was aware that another 90 minutes for Milos Kerkez against a tough Bournemouth team was not feasible, so I knew I had to bring Robertson in.
“Since I had already made one substitution, I had only two windows left, so I brought him on at half-time to ensure Kerkez could be available for the rest of the season. I have to manage that. We can’t afford another injury.”
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his desire for the 31-year-old full-back to remain at Anfield.
“I talk to him every day; he’s my vice-captain,” the Dutch defender said. “Robbo is a key part of our team, and I want him to stay. Whatever happens. We’ll see.”
Robertson has made just four starts in the Premier League this season and may consider leaving the club this month for more playing time ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
