Oliver Glasner was pleased with Crystal Palace’s effort against Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Sunday, despite a 3-1 defeat.
The score did not reflect the match, as Chelsea netted three times through Estevao Willian, Joao Pedro, and a penalty from Enzo Fernandez.
Palmers’ situation worsened when Adam Wharton was sent off for a harsh challenge on Moises Caicedo, although Chris Richards managed to score a consolation goal before the end.
This loss marks 11 games without a win for Palace, with three consecutive defeats.
“I noticed many positives despite the loss and the winless streak. We had a solid first half and missed a significant opportunity, which put us down 1-0.
“After conceding another goal, our confidence dipped, and we lost our structure. But after going down 3-0 and receiving a red card, we created three more chances, which gives me hope that we can turn this around.
“I don’t blame anyone; it’s about restoring confidence, which is my responsibility along with the coaching staff. I appreciated the spirit shown, even at 3-1, a belief was present among the fans, which is encouraging. This team has great potential and character, and I firmly believe in them.”
Chelsea’s penalty came in the second half after a VAR review confirmed that Jaydee Canvot used his arm to stop a goal-scoring opportunity. Glasner acknowledged that the call was justified.
“If you stop a ball with your hand that would’ve gone in, then it’s a penalty.”
