Thomas Frank has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur made a significant effort to sign Antoine Semenyo during the January transfer window.

The winger, who had been linked with Tottenham since 2024, chose to join Manchester City in a £64 million deal with Bournemouth earlier this month.

Interestingly, Semenyo scored the winning goal against Spurs in his last match for Bournemouth, netting a fantastic strike in stoppage time.

In a press conference ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against Manchester City, Frank noted that the pursuit of Semenyo demonstrates the club’s commitment to achieving success.

“The club is working hard to improve the squad, especially Johan (Lange), Fabio (Paritici) and Vinai (Venkatesham), along with everyone supporting them,” he said.

“We must not focus solely on short-term solutions, as they may hinder our long-term goals. If we do not take this approach, the effort we put in now could limit our future.”

“That said, we certainly want immediate success. I can assure you that the Lewis family is fully committed to this project; they are eager to do everything possible.”

“I will go against my usual rule just this once; it is clear that the club was determined to sign (Antoine) Semenyo.”

“They put in a lot of effort, highlighting the commitment from the Lewis family. This would have been a significant financial investment.”

“We are looking for players of that quality to enhance the squad. If we cannot find them, it’s crucial to make the right decisions.”

“We know acquiring quality players isn’t easy, and if we can’t bring others in this window, we are preparing for a significant summer ahead, with major improvements expected.”
