Pep Guardiola praised his Manchester City team after they defeated Newcastle United to reach the Carabao Cup final.
The team dominated in the second leg of their semi-final, leading 3-0 at half-time. Omar Marmoush scored twice for the home side, and Tijjani Reijnders added another goal before the break.
Although Anthony Elanga got one back for Newcastle in the second half, City maintained control. This victory gave them a 5-1 aggregate win against the defending champions and set up a final against Arsenal in March.
“I’m really pleased. I know how tough it is to get here. I’m not sure how many semi-finals we’ve played, so this is great,” Guardiola commented.
“In ten years, we’ve reached the Carabao Cup final five times, which is fantastic. We’ve been very strong in this competition, except last season.”
“For many of us, including myself, it’s exciting to return. Many players haven’t been in a Carabao Cup final or any final with this club.”
“Facing what is arguably the best team in Europe right now will be a valuable experience. I hope we arrive in March fit and prepared for a good match.”
“To reach the final, you must be consistent over two games — 180 minutes — and we performed really well. A 5-1 aggregate win is impressive.”
