Guardiola Calls Anfield the Toughest Challenge in the Premier League

Pep Guardiola believes that playing at Anfield is the toughest away game in the Premier League.

Manchester City will face Liverpool on Sunday in a crucial match for both teams. Guardiola’s team has frequently competed with Liverpool for titles over recent years, but he has not fared well at Anfield.

Since Guardiola became manager in 2016, City has managed only one victory at Liverpool, which occurred in February 2021 when fans weren’t allowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his pre-match press conference, Guardiola was asked if Anfield is the hardest match in the Premier League.

“Yes. Always tough opponents and a difficult venue, especially given the quality of the players and managers. It has been tough,” he said.

This season, Liverpool has not met expectations, currently sitting sixth in the league. Nevertheless, Guardiola considers them an ‘exceptional team.’

“They are still an exceptional team with a top-class manager. Moments come and go, but they always remain a strong team.”
