Jamie Carragher stated that Liverpool needs a significant change to qualify for the Champions League.
Arne Slot’s team lost 2-1 to Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, falling behind in the competition for European spots. Liverpool currently stands sixth in the league, four points behind fifth-placed Chelsea, who is likely to secure a Champions League spot for the upcoming season.
Liverpool’s situation marks a notable decline after winning the Premier League title last season. Despite spending heavily in the summer, the team has faced a downturn compared to their previous performances.
After the latest defeat, Carragher was asked about Liverpool’s chances of making the Champions League.
“No. Right now I don’t,” he replied to Sky Sports.
“They would need a significant improvement. The teams ahead of them are performing well.”
“It’s a tough situation. Looking at the league, it seems far for Liverpool to reach the top five for Champions League spots. There is a gap, and while it can be closed, Liverpool must also perform well in the two cup competitions to salvage the season.”
