Pep Guardiola thinks Man City must improve their consistency to compete with Arsenal for the Premier League title.
City came from behind to defeat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday, staying six points behind the Gunners at the top of the table.
Although this win kept their title hopes alive, it marked only their second league victory in 2026.
Pep Guardiola acknowledges Man City’s inconsistency in Premier League title race
During his pre-match press conference, Guardiola was asked if his team could truly contend for the title. He replied, “We’ve done a lot of good things. I’ve felt for many months that we aren’t consistent enough. We controlled many aspects to win the games, however.
“Against Liverpool, we equalized with a deflected cross from Rayan Cherki, and we scored from there due to some clever play.
“Then we had an incredible save from Giorgio [Donnarumma]. That’s football.”
He added, “If we carry on doing what we need to do, we can succeed. I want to earn the three points and play the way we need to in order to stay competitive.”
Man City can close the gap to Arsenal to three points with a win against Fulham at home on Wednesday, while Arsenal faces Brentford on Thursday.
“Every time I do an interview before a game, it feels like if we lose, everything is over and we will disappear. So what do we need to do to beat Fulham?”
