FA CEO Mark Bullingham has stated that Thomas Tuchel is the top candidate to lead England after he signed a new contract.
Tuchel’s contract was set to end after this summer’s World Cup, but he has now extended it until after the 2028 European Championship.
Under Tuchel, England qualified for the World Cup with an impressive record of eight wins from eight matches and no goals conceded. The team aims to break a 60-year trophy drought at the upcoming World Cup before co-hosting Euro 2028.
Bullingham feels that England has the right coach for both tournaments.
“I am pleased Thomas has chosen to remain with us until the EUROs in 2028. He was the ideal candidate when he joined for the World Cup campaign and has further solidified his reputation during the qualifiers. The players fully support him, and the unity within the team is evident.
“There is simply no better option in world football. With his experience, knowledge, and passion for the game, he gives the squad the best chance for success this summer and with the upcoming EURO in two years.
“With Thomas, Anthony, and the entire team, we have a strong mix of English coaching and international experience. Their main focus is on performing well this summer, and by securing them early for 2028, we have removed any potential delays related to contract negotiations during the tournament.”
