Salford City faced Manchester City in the FA Cup and, even in defeat, maintained their dignity.

Last season, Salford was defeated 8-0 by the same team, raising concerns about another heavy loss when City took an early lead due to an own goal by Alfie Dorrington. However, Salford held their ground until Marc Guehi scored in the 81st minute.

Defender Luke Garbett expressed to BBC the team’s pride in their performance. “We were excellent as a unit and had several good chances in the second half,” he said. “It was unfortunate my free-kick hit the wall, and Woodburn’s effort in the first half was saved well by Trafford.”

“We worked hard all week on our strategy, and I believe we executed it well. We started to feel it was a real contest. Scoring a 2-0 result when last year was 8-0 shows our progress.”

“It feels different now. Last time was demoralizing and affected our confidence,” he added.

“Anything can happen in football. While they are world-class and will create chances, we managed to limit those today. We can compete with anyone. Our focus now is on recovery, as we have a crucial game against Newport on Tuesday.”

Manager Karl Robinson shared his thoughts: “There’s a great deal of pride in this performance. We need to learn through these tough moments if our club is to grow.”

“Until their substitutions in the 75th minute, there weren’t many clear chances against us. They’re brilliant players, so chances will come, but we managed to handle it well.”

The draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup is set to be held on Monday evening.
